Discover one of Tanzania’s most unique cultural and natural destinations on this unforgettable day trip to Lake Eyasi. Located south of the Ngorongoro Highlands, Lake Eyasi is a seasonal soda lake surrounded by dramatic landscapes, acacia woodlands, and traditional tribal communities that have preserved their ancient ways of life for generations.
This excursion offers an extraordinary opportunity to experience authentic cultural interactions with the indigenous Hadzabe and Datoga tribes, some of the last remaining hunter-gatherer and pastoralist communities in East Africa. Visitors can learn about traditional hunting techniques, survival skills, local craftsmanship, and the deep cultural heritage of these remarkable communities while exploring the remote beauty of the Lake Eyasi region.

Early in the morning, your guide from Kilimanjaro Raven Company will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha or Karatu and begin the scenic drive toward Lake Eyasi.
Upon arrival, meet the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in Africa. Learn about their traditional lifestyle, hunting methods, survival techniques, local medicinal plants, and ancient cultural practices that have remained unchanged for centuries.
Visitors may also have the opportunity to accompany the Hadzabe men during a short traditional hunting demonstration while learning how they use bows, arrows, and natural tracking skills to survive in the wilderness.
After the Hadzabe experience, continue to a nearby Datoga community where you will learn about their pastoral lifestyle, blacksmithing traditions, beadwork, and local customs.
Visit traditional homes, observe local craftsmanship, and interact with community members while gaining insight into their daily life and cultural heritage.
Later, enjoy a picnic lunch near the lake while surrounded by peaceful natural scenery and birdlife. Depending on the season, Lake Eyasi attracts flamingos, pelicans, and many other water birds, creating excellent photography opportunities.
Spend time relaxing and exploring the lakeshore before beginning your return journey.
